Ford Airstream – The Fascinating Electric Hydrogen Fuel Powered Car
Concept car the Ford Airstream made a debut at the North American International Auto Show ’09 in Detroit, Michigan. The Ford Airstream blends in the retro as well as futuristic features. This SUV draws inspiration from the Airstream recreational vehicle. Ford itself described it as modern SUV that has a futuristic look at the crossovers.
The Ford Airstream concept was developed by Ford and Airstream which is a unit of Thor Industries. The project was partially received its funds from United States Department of Energy. Powered with a HySeries Drive, which is described as a plug-in hybrid hydrogen fuel cell drive system, the Ford Airstream uses electricity to work.
The concept vehicle is designed in such a manner that the hydrogen fuel cell model should run for 41 miles per gallon and we are not talking about the highway only. In side the city also the Ford Airstream is expected to perform in the similar manner. The vehicle was tested initially on lithium ion battery. Its powerful batter gives about 336 volts power. The vehicle would run the first 25 miles with electricity and then would start the hydrogen fuel.
Ford Airstream aims to be ideal for long journey and its SUV look and comfort level was made with lot of research. Its engine uses high end innovative technology that would make traveling costs cheaper as well as lighter. Its engine is designed in such a manner that it is equally easy to ignite in extreme cold regions even with the temperature freezing, the fuel cell would work perfectly well.
If you look closely, the Ford Airstream concept car combines the looks of a space craft as well as roadsters that makes it a superb vehicle. The vehicle has new stylized windows, and body. It uses designed headlamps and surface grill. For the driver’s comfort, the vehicle integrates touch sensitive controls.
